Welcome to S&L Distraction Kits website.
S&L Self-Harm Distraction Kits is a non-profit company based in the UK, dedicated to supporting individuals affected by self-harm. Founded by Sally, whose personal experience with her daughter's self-harming behaviors inspired the initiative, the organisation aims to provide practical tools and resources to help break the cycle of self-injury.
Mission and Approach
The core philosophy of S&L Self-Harm Distraction Kits revolves around the "Delay and Replace" strategy. Research indicates that if individuals can delay the impulse to self-harm by even 30 to 45 seconds and replace it with safer alternatives, the likelihood of self-injury decreases significantly. The kits are designed to facilitate this delay by offering immediate, non-harmful coping mechanisms.

Why Choose a S&L Self-Harm Distraction Kit?
What price would you put on supporting someone?
Many mental health professionals, including counsellors, therapists, and life coaches, recommend assembling a toolkit to promote positivity, self-care, and overall well-being. This toolkit typically contains personal items that evoke positive feelings or memories, such as photographs of loved ones, cherished holiday snapshots, or images of beloved pets. It may also include comfort foods like sweets or chocolate, calming essential oils or perfumes, and fidget or fiddle items. Essentially, it should encompass anything that positively influences one's emotional state.
Our kits are specifically designed for individuals who self-harm, containing items tailored to their unique needs. However, by incorporating additional personal items, users can further enhance the effectiveness of the delay and replace strategy. The S&L Self-Harm Distraction Kit serves as a pre-assembled toolkit that can be personalised. Extensive research has informed the contents of this kit, making it readily available to support the safety and prevention of self-harm behaviours.
